Fayetteville
is the third-largest city in Arkansas, located in the northwestern part of the state. As of the 2010 census, the population was 73,580. Fayetteville is home to the University of Arkansas, the state's largest university. Forbes Magazine has ranked Fayetteville as the "8th-best City for Business and Careers in 2010" and U.S. News ranked the city as one of the "Best Places to Retire." Fayetteville has also been ranked #8 on the "Top 10 Best BBQ Cities" by Livability, and the majority of Fayetteville restaurants serve Memphis-style barbecue, with some Texas influence. Fayetteville has the traditional characteristics of a city of the American South, yet it also has Midwest and Southwest influences. Dickson Street in Fayetteville is the place to head for music and theater, shopping, bars and restaurants. The famed TheatreSquared, Northwest Arkansass only year-round professional regional theatre, is located just off Dickson Street. The theater was recognized in 2011 by the American Theatre Wing as one of the country's "ten most promising emerging theatres." Another place to visit is the Fayetteville Historic Square, which has been the center of the town since the countys first courthouse was located there in 1829. The colorful town square is the site of a variety of events, including First Thursday on the Square, the Block Street Block Party, the Lights of the Ozarks Festival and the Fayetteville Farmers Market. The square is filled with boutiques, restaurants, museums, condos, the visitor center, and a convention center. For history buffs, there are 60 places listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the city of Fayetteville, including the first home of Bill and Hillary Clinton. Their former home is now the Clinton House Museum.

Northwest Arkansas has a moderate climate with four distinct season. Summers are generally very hot and humid,
springs and autumns are warm and pleasant, winter offers both sunshine and snowfall. The average winter temperature is 45 degrees and the average summer temperature is about 92 degrees. Precipitation is usually well distributed throughout the year. One or more snowfalls occur each winter but the snow cover usually only remains for a few days. Thunderstorms are common, especially in spring. The state of Arkansas lies within Tornado Alley and is known for its extreme storms and tornadoes, some of the most severe in the nation. An average of 26 such storms are experienced each year. Elevation in this region is 1,359 above sea level.
