Jonesboro
is a city located in Craighead County in northeast Arkansas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 67,263, with a combined population of 121,026 in the entire metro area. Jonesboro is home to Arkansas State University and is the largest city in northeastern Arkansas. It's also the regional center for manufacturing, agriculture, medicine, education, and trade. Kiplinger's Personal Finance ranked Jonesboro ninth in the "Ten Best Cities for Cheapskates." It's a beautiful city with a historic downtown, culture, dining and lots of shopping. In fact, Jonesboro is home to the Mall at Turtle Creek, the largest mall in northeast Arkansas. Before the opening of the mall, the Indian Mall was the primary shopping destination in northeast Arkansas. In 2012, Indian Mall, named for the former mascot of Arkansas State University, was demolished. Downtown Jonesboro is a beautiful district with an amazing culture and a historic past. Grants have allowed the city to fund things such as art centers, improved store fronts, street safety features and beautification projects that increase the aesthetics of the city. Jonesboro is a great city from which to base a northeastern Arkansas vacation.

Northeast Arkansas has a climate that is classified as humid subtropical. The climate of this region is mild in the winter and hot and humid in the summer with average temperatures increasing from north to south. Northeast Arkansas lies within the Mississippi Alluvial Plain. Most of this region is level lowlands, but the area is broken by a narrow strip of hills running north to south through the central plain. These hills form Crowley's Ridge, which is a unique geological formation, and one of Arkansas's six natural divisions - but it's not large enough to have a significant impact on the region's weather patterns. The mean January temperature in this part of northeast Arkansas is 35.6, and the mean July temperature is 81.6. The average precipitation for the year is 46.18 inches. Snowfall is possible, but not significant.
