The city of Magnolia is home to the Worlds Largest Charcoal Grill and the World Championship Steak Cook-off, part of the Magnolia Blossom Festival. The town was founded in 1853 and incorporated in 1858. The city grew from an agricultural and cotton farming center, and then oil was discovered just east of the city in 1938. According to Wikipedia, "The Magnolia Oil Field was an important discovery, not just for the city but for the nation, as it was the largest producing field (in volume) during the early years of World War II, helping to fuel the American war effort." Today, the town is also known for the Magnolia Blossom Festival and World Championship Steak Cook-off. This lively family-oriented festival attracts over 40,000 visitors and has been featured on the Food Network. Other attractions to Magnolia include the Festival of Lights festival held from late November through late December and its downtown shops on the town square. The city of Magnolia is a very pretty town and features several murals downtown, one of which was signed by actor Charlton Heston.
