Gassville
is located in Baxter County in north-central Arkansas between the towns of Mountain Home and Harrison. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,078. Although small in size, Gassville has a lot to offer including all the amenities of a much larger city. It's most often associated with the neighboring town of Cotter, as both are ideally located along the world-famous White River. U.S. Highway 412/62 runs directly through the town, providing quick access for commuters. Gassville is a vibrant town with a variety of businesses, shops and restaurants for visitors. Gassville and Cotter are called Trout Capital USA, because the fabled White River runs right through the two towns. Historic Cotter rests below the bluffs on a horseshoe bend in the river roughly 18 miles downstream of the Bull Shoals Lake Dam. The town of Gassville sits at a slightly higher elevation. Together, they provide miles of riverfront access, and the clear, cold waters produce trophy-size rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout. Both Field and Stream and Outdoor Life Magazines have rated Cotter, Gassville and the surrounding Twin Lakes Region as one of the top fishing and retirement destinations in the United States. The area has award winning restaurants, both modern and rustic lodging, camping, beautiful parks and hiking trails. The Cotter Trout Festival is usually held the first week of May and offers vendors with arts and crafts, face painting, food, drinks, fishing and nonstop music. The Annual Shawnee Supreme Boat Trout Invitational is held at Cotters Big Spring Park in March of each year.

North-central Arkansas, near the Missouri border, lies the Ozark Plateau, an area of rugged hills and deep valleys. It's both the coolest and the driest part of the state, and the seasons are more distinct here than in other areas of the state. The average January temperature is 34.9, and the average July temperature of 79. This area receives an average of 45.20 inches of precipitation each year. More snow falls each winter in this part of the state than in any other. Summers are hot, hazy and humid, with frequent thunderstorms. Arkansas is also prone to weather extremes, such as tornadoes and receives on average 26 each year. It's far enough away from the Gulf Coast to be safe from a direct hit from a hurricane. However, it can get the remnants of a tropical system which dumps tremendous amounts of rain in a short time and may spawn smaller tornadoes.
