Lake-Bennett
is a 40-acre lake located in central Arkansas' Faulkner County. The lake is in the center of the 400-acre Woolly Hollow State Park. Created by the Corps and Works Progress Administration as the first Soil Conservation System watershed project in the United States, today Lake Bennett is a popular recreational lake.Activities include swimming, boating, fishing, canoeing, tubing, camping and picnicking. Canoes, pedal boats, fishing boats and motors are available for rent in Woolly Hollow State Park. The closest town to Lake Bennett is Greenbrier, which had a population of 4,706 as of the 2010 census. Greenbrier has an interesting history. It was developed from a minor brothel on the Butterfield Stagecoach route that grew into a bustling city. The town was named for the greenbriar vines which grew along the creek through the town. Greenbrier is located 12 miles north of Conway on Highway 65. Lake Bennett also offers a picnic area, standard pavilion, a gift shop, and a 10-mile hiking/biking trail. Woolly Cabin, the log home of the areas first settlers, is open to visitors and gives a historic perspective of the park.

Central Arkansas has a climate classified as humid subtropical - and it is, indeed, humid. Summers are hot and muggy and winters are mild, usually with very little snow. Daily high temperatures in summer average around 90 degrees F. and close to 50 degrees in winter. Annual precipitation throughout the state averages between 40-60 inches. Snowfall is possible in winter, but usually not excessive, with the average about five inches. Snowfall is more common in the north half of the state. Central and southern Arkansas is more apt to get ice storms, sleet and freezing rain. Thunderstorms are very common, however, with the area receiving around 60 per year. Arkansas is prone to tornadoes, and some of the most destructive in U.S. history have struck the state.
