Mountain-View is a city nestled in the Ozark Mountains of north-central Arkansas. The town has always been a community rich in the tradition of preserving its culture, especially folk music. The economy is largely based in tourism and its known as the "Folk Music Capitol of the World." The Ozark Folk Festival is held in April, and various folk artists perform at the Ozark Folk Center State Park throughout the year. In addition, weekly music gatherings are held on the courthouse steps in summertime that are free and open to the public. The city of Mountain View is also known for its outdoor recreation. The town is near Blanchard Springs Caverns, the White River and the Ozark National Forest. Greers Ferry Lake is about an hour south of Mountain View. Thousands of people travel to Mountain View each year to attend one of festivals. If you are interested in visiting during a festival, lodging often must be secured a year in advance. Highlights of the Ozark Folk Festival include a "home-town" parade, numerous folk arts and crafts vendors and wonderful live folk music. One of the more unique festivals in town is the Arkansas Bean Fest and Great Championship Outhouse Races. Usually held the last weekend in October, nearly one ton of pinto beans are cooked in large, antique iron kettles on the courthouse square. Crowds gather and promptly at noon, free beans and cornbread are served to all. The festival then continues with the famous Outhouse Race. Other local festivals include the Mountain View Bluegrass Festival, held in both mid-March and mid-November, an Old-Fashioned Fourth of July, and the Ozark Mountain Christmas, held throughout the month of December.

Mountain View Weather & Climate

Northern Arkansas is an area of rugged hills and deep valleys. It's the coolest part of the state in the wintertime and also receives the most snow than any other part of the state. Sleet and freezing rain are also possible in winter. This region generally receives several inches of snow each year due to the proximity to the plains states and the higher elevations. Summers are hot and humid, with frequent thunderstorms. Arkansas is known for being in the path of tornadoes. Also, while being far enough away from the coast to be safe from a direct hit from a hurricane, the state can often get the remnants of a tropical system which dumps tremendous amounts of rain in a short time and often spawns smaller tornadoes.
