Cave-Creek
is the name of an area and a creek located in northwest Arkansas along Scenic Highway 7. Cave Creek itself rushes below beautiful limestone cliffs and offers fishing for small mouth bass and perch. Hiking, cave exploring, wildlife viewing, mountain biking, camping and scenic drives are also available in the area. However, Cave Creek is especially known for its rock climbing opportunities. Cave Creek is in Newton County, which lies almost entirely within the rugged Boston Mountain range of the Ozark Mountains at elevations that exceed 2,500 feet. An annual rock-climbing competition called 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell (24HHH) is held at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch in Newton County. Using difficulty ratings based on the Yosemite Decimal System, teams of two attempt to climb as many routes as possible in 24 hours. The sandstone walls of the canyon has over 411 established routes. The event was first held in 2006, and was rated by Climbing Magazine as one of the most difficult endurance events in the nation. The Buffalo National River is another popular spot for canoeing and recreation. Highway 7, which traverses the county from north to south, is rated as one of the most scenic drives in the state. Other nearby attractions include the Ozark National Forest and the Upper Buffalo Wilderness.

Northern Arkansas is an area of rugged hills and deep valleys. This area is the coolest and driest part of the state. It also receives the most snow than any other part of the state, and may also receive sleet and freezing rain. This region generally receives several inches of snow each year due to the proximity to the plains states and the higher elevations. Summers are hot and humid, with frequent thunderstorms. Arkansas is known for being in the path of tornadoes. Also, while being far enough away from the coast to be safe from a direct hit from a hurricane, the state can often get the remnants of a tropical system which dumps tremendous amounts of rain in a short time and often spawns smaller tornadoes.
