St-Joe is a small community located in Searcy County in north-central Arkansas. As of the 2010 census the population was 132 people. The town of St. Joe was incorporated in 1904 as a railroad stop on the Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad. The old railroad depot still stands to this day. Locals still refer to what was known as "Old Town" that consisted of a town square, a courthouse, blacksmith shop, mills, and other businesses. The "New Town" was situated a little further north of the railroad and was anchored by a General Store. In the late 1990s, there was renewed interest in having an incorporated town. Residents wanted to have a local government but because of a state law requiring a minimum of 175 registered voters in order to incorporate, a new incorporation could not be done. Instead, the charter for what was called the "Old Town" was reactivated. In this incorporation, people who lived on the edge of the town were asked to be included, which meant the town grew by over 100 acres. In early 2011, the town received a grant of just over $10,000 from the Arkansas Rural Community Grant Program that was used to restore the historic Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad depot. St. Joe is host to several special events throughout the year. The Searcy County Rural Help Center Fish Fry, the Ozark Byways Buy-Days, the Annual Falling Water Trail Ride Snowball to St. Joe and the St. Joe Fall Festival.

St Joe Weather & Climate

Northern Arkansas is an area of rugged hills and deep valleys. This area is the coolest and driest part of the state. It also receives the most snow than any other part of the state, and may also receive sleet and freezing rain. This region generally receives several inches of snow each year due to the proximity to the plains states and the higher elevations. Summers are hot and humid, with frequent thunderstorms. Arkansas is known for being in the path of tornadoes. Also, while being far enough away from the coast to be safe from a direct hit from a hurricane, the state can often get the remnants of a tropical system which dumps tremendous amounts of rain in a short time and often spawns smaller tornadoes.
