Harrison
is a city in Boone County, Arkansas, which is in the northernmost part of the state. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,943. The city of Harrison hosts several special events throughout the year; the annual Arkansas Hot Air Balloon races in September, Crawdad Days Music Festival in May, a Harvest Homecoming festival each October and a Christmas celebration in December. Other attractions include the Harrison Courthouse Square Historic District. The square contains the historic and still-used courthouse in the center of the square, the recently refurbished Lyric Theater, and the beautiful 1929 Hotel Seville, which underwent a complete restoration in 2008. Other places of interest near Harrison include Fentons Berry Farm. For outdoor recreation, the Crooked Creek flows through the town of Harrison and has been nationally recognized as a "Blue Ribbon" smallmouth bass fishery. Harrison also serves as the National Park Services Buffalo National River headquarters. Hemmed-In-Hollow Falls, a 209 feet waterfall located 25 miles southwest of Harrison, is the tallest waterfall between the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachians.

Northern Arkansas is an area of rugged hills and deep valleys. This area is the coolest and driest part of the state. It also receives the most snow than any other part of the state, and may also receive sleet and freezing rain. This region generally receives several inches of snow each year due to the proximity to the plains states and the higher elevations. Summers are hot and humid, with frequent thunderstorms. Arkansas is known for being in the path of tornadoes. Also, while being far enough away from the coast to be safe from a direct hit from a hurricane, the state can often get the remnants of a tropical system which dumps tremendous amounts of rain in a short time and often spawns smaller tornadoes.
