Witts-Springs is an unincorporated community located on Highway 16 in north-central Arkansas. It's in Searcy County about 16 miles southwest of the town of Marshall, which is the county seat. This is a rural area of the state; the entire population of Searcy County was 8,195 as of the 2010 census. Witts Springs is about 70 miles from the city of Searcy, Arkansas, some seventy miles away, shares the name despite having never been part of Searcy County. Witts Springs is mostly known for its Annual Hillbilly Daze, always held on Memorial Day weekend. What started as a weekend for locals to decorate the graves of their deceased relatives has since turned into a full-fledged festival. The festival kicks off with a Kids Parade, followed by the Main Parade with floats, antique cars, horses, bikes, wagons and marching bands. Immediately following the parade, lunch is served featuring beans and cornbread, hamburgers and hot dogs. Other activities at the Witts Springs Hillbilly Daze include horseshoes, turtle races, a silent auction, arts and crafts booths and live entertainment. In the evening a fish fry offers catfish, chicken, hushpuppies, baked beans and coleslaw.

Witts Springs Weather & Climate

Northern Arkansas is an area of rugged hills and deep valleys. This area is the coolest and driest part of the state. It also receives the most snow than any other part of the state, and may also receive sleet and freezing rain. This region generally receives several inches of snow each year due to the proximity to the plains states and the higher elevations. Summers are hot and humid, with frequent thunderstorms. Arkansas is known for being in the path of tornadoes. Also, while being far enough away from the coast to be safe from a direct hit from a hurricane, the state can often get the remnants of a tropical system which dumps tremendous amounts of rain in a short time and often spawns smaller tornadoes.
