Langley
is a small community located in Pike County in southwestern Arkansas. It's sits at the crossroads of state highways 84 and 369 and is usually a stopping point for people traveling north to the Albert Pike Recreational Area in the Ouachita National Forest. Langley is just 8 miles west of Lodi and 8 miles east of the town of Athens. The Ouachita National Forest contains extensive woodlands of old growth forest that totals nearly 800,000 acres. Two wilderness areas are found near Langley in the Ouachita Forest; the 13,139-acre Black Fork Mountain Wilderness (which is located in both Arkansas and Oklahoma) and the 9,754-acre Upper Kiamichi River Wilderness, which is located solely in Oklahoma. The Talimena Scenic Drive is a National Scenic Byway which meanders through the and passes through the old-growth oak woodlands on Winding Stair and Rich Mountains. The forest headquarters are located in Hot Springs, Arkansas.Recreation near Langley includes hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, overnight backpacking, rock hounding, camping, fishing, canoeing and wildlife viewing. The area is also a popular destination for birdwatchers from all over the United States and the United Kingdom as well.
