Scranton
is a tiny community located in Logan County in west-central Arkansas. The population as of 2013 was 216 residents. Scranton is located near Lake Dardanelle and more specifically near an area of the lake known as Dublin Recreational Area. The town of Scranton is also just a short drive to Mount Magazine State Park. The Dublin Recreational Area is a good area for fishing, boating, water-skiing and tubing. Quiet and peaceful, it's a place to sit back and enjoy the lake views or take a leisurely walk around the shoreline and surrounding woods. Scranton's location near Lake Dardanelle means year-round recreation. The lake covers 34,300 acres and has 315 miles of shoreline for boating, fishing, kayaking, and all kinds of water sports. The park around the lake offers picnicking areas, camping, birding and hiking. There are also guided tours of the lake by kayaks or party barge. The lake extends from Dardanelle Lock and Dam near the village of Dardanelle, into Pope, Yell, Logan, Johnson and Franklin Counties. A short drive from Scranton takes you to the awesome beauty of Mount Magazine, which is the tallest mountain in the state of Arkansas and the site of a state park.

Northwest Arkansas , along the Arkansas River, the climate is humid, subtropical. This area of the state is between the Ouachita Mountains to the south and Ozark Mountains to the north. The average January temperature is 40 F., and the average July temperature is 82 F. The average annual precipitation is 51 inches. Overall, the climate along the Arkansas River is very moderate, which allows for crops unique to this region of the state, such as the wine grapes. Severe weather is mostly in the form of thunderstorms and ice storms or sleet in the wintertime and tornadoes, especially in spring. Arkansas also often receives the remnants of a tropical system which dumps tremendous amounts of rain in a short time and may spawn smaller tornadoes.
